p1010021a.jpgIn spite of searing summer heat and drought in the lake area, nature has come through with a nice fall foliage color display. Once again, some of the best viewing is on Hwy 190 between Livingston and FM 980 and on FM 980 North from Hwy 190 to Riverside.  Foliage color should last through Christmas.

THE OLD DOG

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Many dogs love to chase cars. In Riverside just off Hwy 19, on FM 980, about 1 block east of the traffic signal, lives an old dog, possibly a Collie or Collie mix.  For at least 10 years, this dog has been defending its territory by chasing off cars going down FM 980. In its prime it could give cars a real run.The dog is old now, and does not move as fast, but still will give a short run  at cars on a warm sunny day. If it’s not up to an actual chase, you can still see the gleam in its eyes as it tracks trespassing vechcles. If you’re passing through Riverside, at the North end of Lake Livingston, drive by and wave to the Old Dog

FALL COLOR, IT’S NOT TOO LATE

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

Early onset of cold weather in the Lake area has extended the time frame to view Fall foliage this year. Look for areas around the lake that are mixed forest (not mostly evergreen pine).  A good area to drive now is Highway 90, between Livingston and Point Blank.
